Vietnamese Community of Oregon organizes a Float and Parade in the Rose Festival 2011 |
||
|
VNCO would like to invite all of you to participate in the Float development and Community Parade in the Rose Festival 2011. Theme: Thánh Gióng Location: La Vang Church at 5404 NE Alameda Drive Portland, Oregon 97213 Time of float development: TBD Date of parade: Saturday, June 11th, 2011 Program manager: Nguyễn Nhật Linh (Miss Vietnamese Pageant 2009). Contact 503.737.7173/ nlinh_13@yahoo.com Thánh Gióng Legend: Thánh Gióng is the folk story was told from long time ago about the boy who was born as the result of his mother stepping on the giant footprint of Mr. Dong, a God in Vietnam’s myths. Gióng began to speak at 3 years old when we heard the commander that was sent by the king to look for people who could help him expel the invader out of the country. Gióng asked the commander for an iron horse, iron stick and iron amour so he can fight the invaders out of the country. After talking to the commander, Gióng started to eat a lot and grew rapidly into a big man. Gióng then used the iron horse, iron stick, and iron amour that the king had made for him and fought the enemy out of the country. When the iron rod broke in half, Gióng used the bamboo trees on the side to fight them. After the fight, Gióng flew to heaven. To show the deep gratitude to the valiant man, the king conferred a title “Phù Đổng Thiên Vương” or “Thánh Gióng” (Saint Gióng) on him and set up a temple in memory. Thánh Gióng Legend represents the strength of the Vietnamese in always fighting against foreign aggression and defending the country. |
